Hands on Practice, Lesson 3: Inventory  

Now that we have created some suppliers and customers, we can move on to inventory.  In this lesson, you will practice creating, finding, editing, printing, and deleting inventory items.  This lesson assumes that you have carefully read the OneSource Quick Start Guide, and that you have completed Lessons 1-2.

Creating Inventory Items

Complete the following scenarios:

  1. Create a new inventory item using data from an actual inventory item that your company sells.  Try to fill in as many of the fields that you can.  Show Me

  2. Create a new inventory item.  Enter “AAA” for the Item Number.  Set the Class to "Stock".   Choose “SupplierXYZ” as the Default Supplier.  Leave all the Special Characteristics boxes unchecked.  Enter any information you would like for the following fields:  Description, Category, Manufacturer, Model, and Retail.  Show Me

  3. Create a new inventory item.  Enter “ZZZ” for the Item Number.  Set the Class to "Stock".   Choose “SupplierXYZ” as the Default Supplier.  Leave all the Special Characteristics boxes unchecked.  Enter any information you would like for the following fields:  Description, Category, Manufacturer, Model, and Retail.  Show Me

  4. Create a new inventory item.  Do this by creating a duplicate of “ZZZ”.  Enter “BBB” for the Item Number.  Show Me

Finding Inventory Items

Complete the following scenarios:

  1. Use the Simple Search form to find item “AAA” by the Item Number.  Show Me

  2. Use the Simple Search form to find item “ZZZ” by the Description.  Show Me

  3. Use the Simple Search form to find item “AAA” by the Manufacturer.  Show Me

  4. Use the Simple Search form to find item “ZZZ” by the Supplier.  Show Me

  5. Use the Summary of Inventory Items form to find all the items that begin with the letter “E”.  Show Me

  6. Use the Summary of Inventory Items form to find all the items that contain the word “piano” in the Description.  Show Me

  7. Use the Summary of Inventory Items form to find all the items that fall under the category of “Keyboards”.  Do this using filtering options.  Show Me

  8. Use the Summary of Inventory Items form to find all the items that do not fall under the category of “Keyboards”.  Show Me

  9. Use the Summary of Inventory Items form to find all the items that have “Crate” as their supplier and “Accessories” as their category. Show Me

  10. Use the Product & Service Inventory Management form to find all the items that begin with the letter “A”.  Show Me

  11. Use the Product & Service Inventory Management form to find all the items that have the Multi-Warehouse option checked.  Show Me

  12. Use the Product & Service Inventory Management form to find all the items that have over 10 items in stock.  Show Me

  13. Use the Product & Service Inventory Management form to find all the items that have the word “guitar” in the Description field.  Show Me

  14. Use the Product & Service Inventory Management form to find all the items that do not contain a value in the Sub Category field.  Show Me

  15. Use the Product & Service Inventory Management form to find all the items that have a Last Order Date between Jan. 1, 2004 and June 1, 2004.  Show Me

Editing Inventory Items

Complete the following scenarios:

  1. Edit the description of item “ZZZ” so that it says something different.  Show Me

  2. Add a new Custom Field for item “AAA” and give it a value.  Be sure to change the label for the new custom field.  Show Me

  3. Edit the Default Supplier Cost for item “AAA” give it any value that you would like.  Show Me

  4. Adjust the Quantity in Stock for item “AAA” so that there are 50 items in stock.  Show Me

Printing Inventory Items

Complete the following scenarios:

  1. Print the data for item “ZZZ”.  Show Me

  2. Print an inventory listing by Item Number.  Show Me

Deleting Inventory Items

Complete the following scenarios:

  1. Delete item “ZZZ”.  Show Me
